NEWSFLASH, SEPTEMBER 2011.
by Patrick on 09/29/11
Script E.R. is delighted to announce that we have been selected to teach screenwriting workshops at the Pepper Tree Retreat in Ojai, CA!
The Pepper Tree is the former home of the renowned late Indian philosopher Krishnamurti. During his life, he hosted academics, authors and creatives at his home including Aldous Huxley, David Bohm, John Lennon and Greta Garbo.
Now the retreat is an educational foundation, and is a beautiful and atmospheric retreat with a fantastic library. People come from far and wide to soak up the atmosphere and create.... Script E.R. has been chosen as a teaching/mentorship program which is in line with the ideals of the foundation.
We are planning on tailoring our customary packages to suit two to four day intensive workshops at the retreat. Individuals may apply for one on one intensive coaching with our founders, or there is potential for a small group to gather to learn screenwriting fundamentals and take individual meetings to outline and further their individual projects.
Lodging and hearty vegetarian breakfast will be provided as part of the workshop costs. For larger groups, lunchtime catering from local organic deli Rainbow Bridge can be arranged.

The Second Act Sag
by Patrick on 12/27/10
After the midpoint, a screenplay often loses its way. This is the dreaded second act sag. A couple of techniques to avoid this letdown:
1. Introduce a new character.
2. Introduce a new tension.
In older films, you will notice that rich, varied characters will often be introduced more than halfway through the film. For some reason, modern films shy away from this. But it's a perfect way to give your screenplay new direction and life.
